Role Description: Nutrition Manager

Mission

As the Nutrition Manager, you play a key role in fulfilling Extendicare’s purpose of Helping People Live Better by leading culinary operations within a long‑term care home. Using a person‑centred approach, you lead and inspire a food services team to deliver pleasurable dining experiences that enhance residents’ wellbeing and quality of life.

The Nutrition Manager is an operational leader who collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team and key stakeholders to advance Extendicare’s mission of providing people with the care they need, wherever they call home.

  • Lead and develop a high‑performing food service team that demonstrates Extendicare’s values and delivers exceptional service to residents and families
  • Positively impact residents’ nutrition, enjoyment, and overall enrichment through pleasurable dining experiences
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of menu items in accordance with each resident’s individualized plan of care
  • Effectively manage the day‑to‑day culinary operations of the home
  • Support the home’s financial health through proactive food and supply budget management, spending oversight, and achievement of financial targets
  • Maintain full compliance with provincial legislation, company policies, regulatory standards, and collective bargaining agreements within a unionized environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively support and participate in quality improvement initiatives and the development of quality improvement plans
  • Achieve Resident Satisfaction and Employee Engagement targets
  • Manage food services with a focus on individualized resident nutritional plans of care
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, residents, and families to develop and customize personalized menus
  • Ensure all food and fluid interventions are prepared and served according to residents’ care plans
  • Confirm menu items meet assessed nutritional and therapeutic needs
  • Partner closely with Dietitians and dietary team members to ensure full compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and all applicable legislation
  • Ensure consistent adherence to infection prevention and control and food safety standards
  • Ontario Only: Conduct low‑ and moderate‑risk routine resident nutrition assessments as delegated by the Registered Dietitian
  • Maintain operational excellence within approved budgets
  • Manage vendor relationships and community partnerships related to culinary services
  • Recruit, hire, train, and engage dietary staff in a unionized environment
  • Take a hands‑on leadership approach, providing mentorship, coaching, and operational support as needed

Qualifications

  • Ontario Only: Current membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) or Registered Dietitian designation
  • Valid Food Safety Handler’s Certificate
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant dietary experience and one (1) year of leadership experience
  • Demonstrated passion for food production, food service, and long‑term care
  • Ability to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check (including Criminal Background Check) within six months, or willingness to obtain one
